Mushroom hunting
Today saw mushroom hunting in a forest on the edge of Kuopio with Pekka (who’s been doing this since the age of two) and newly arrived project assistant Susie. In a couple of hours we filled a basket with slender Suppilovahvero and its close cousin Kosteikkovahvero, a handful of white, fleshy Jauhosieni, some Karvarousku (which need boiling to be edible), and one bright yellow kantarelli. They’ll be preserved (in salt perhaps?) at our next kitchen session. Though no elks were spotted (just footprints and droppings..!) we also picked a little stack of lingering bilberries and lingonberries along the way.
